Nepal Pigeon Keeper's Association
The 2008 Nepal Pigeon Keeper’s Association (NPKA) tournament was held across multiple dates from late April to mid-May 2008 (Baishak–Jestha 2065), featuring participants from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and surrounding areas. The competition followed a structured multi-day format where pigeon fanciers recorded flight times of their birds under regulated conditions. A large number of participants competed across several rounds, with scores recorded based on flight duration. Some entries were marked as “RE” (likely rule-exit/disqualification), and a few participants withdrew from the tournament. Winners 1st Place: Mahendra Karmacharya – 17 hrs 38 mins 2nd Place: Nabin Sharma – 17 hrs 17 mins 3rd Place: Sanjeev Kapoor Shrestha – 17 hrs 16 mins Best Pigeon Kasni Male – 6 hrs 5 mins Notable Details The tournament included multiple competition days, each with its own participant list and results. Participants came from key pigeon-keeping hubs like Thamel, Bafal, Kalimati, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. Some competitors achieved significantly long flight durations exceeding 15 hours, indicating high-performance birds. A few participants recorded zero scores, suggesting unsuccessful or invalid flights. Four participants withdrew from the tournament. Chief Judge Jitendra R. Bajracharya, a founding member of NPKA, served as Chief Judge. He played a key role in developing the pigeon-keeping community in Nepal and was also the webmaster and media spokesperson for the association.
